Drivers trying to beat the Easter rush hour traffic have been caught in a huge queue at the Dartford Crossing.

One of the busiest travel days on the UK roads has been disrupted after a lorry blocked several lanes on the A282 in Kent.

Traffic ground to a halt after all but one lane was forced to shut on the northbound approach to the crossing near the M25.

A lorry got into trouble after it broke down with its brakes locked on between J1B and J1A, National Highways said.

This is causing 60-minute delays in the area, with congestion stretching back onto M25 past Swanley and into the A2.

Three lanes out of four remain closed for the recovery of the HGV.

One frustrated motorist said on X: Three lanes for one HGV? This is serious clown music. Drag it out the way asap, causing absolutely havoc.’

Today is expected to be the busiest travel day on Britain’s roads, with almost 20,000,000 journeys forecast ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

Unfortunately for anyone heading out of London, the M25 is set to feel the brunt of the Easter traffic, with hotspots likely on the southwest section of the motorway in particular.

A driving expert told Metro what the most common mistakes behind the wheel are – all of which could cost nearly £1,000 in fines.

While roads are set to be buzzing this bank holiday, flights at Gatwick Airport could also be disrupted after strike goes ahead.

Flights could be delayed or cancelled when hundreds of baggage handlers, check-in staff and flight dispatchers working for a handful of airlines walk out.

The strike action was confirmed today after members of Unite rejected a pay deal.

On an average day, the Dartford Crossing is used by around 150,000 vehicles.
