This is the moment a man riding a motorised lawnmower rides over children’s goalposts and destroys them.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has apologised after CCTV from nearby houses captured the incident unfold in the town of Norton.

Parents, who grouped together to buy the posts for children in the area, reacted in fury after the video went viral on Facebook.

CCTV camera on the side of a house in Kew Gardens spotted a lawnmower, allegedly from the council, slamming into the goalposts on the grass.

The gardener then appears to ram into the football posts multiple times.

One parent told Metro: ‘It was just such a shame as we have a great little community here and a few of us parents clubbed together to buy the goals and the children play out every evening.

‘We would have been more than happy to move them as would any of the the neighbours in the street if they had asked.’

The incident sparked hundreds of angry comments on Facebook, with many demanding an apology from the council.

The council has since apologised and provided new goalposts, as well as goalkeeper gloves and a ball.

Cllr Nigel Cooke, from Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: ‘We are aware of this complaint and are looking into it as a matter of urgency.

‘Officers have been out to see the family and replacement goals are being arranged. We’re sorry for any upset caused.’
